Distractions are Hard to Come By

Every now and again, I find that Lorelei is a really simple creature - she eats, she sleeps, she poops - and she's easy to distract. I'll take her for a walk on my shoulders around the neighborhood, or to the park, or the playground. And she'll flap her hands up and down and let me know she's happy, or she'll flop over and let me carry her. Simple. Easy.

But now and again, she suddely becomes this really complex little creature. I guess that's a warning that she won't be simple forever, but it's still hard to cope with. She loves Yo Gabba Gabba, for example. We'll put an episode on and she'll start clapping as soon as the pre-show intro comes on. She sits and stares and claps along and tries to touch the characters on the tv screen.

Nevermind for the moment that Muno is kind of a jerk.

And Lorelei likes Sesame Street. It's a different kind of show, obviously, but certainly still wholesome enough that I don't mind that she's watching it.

But other shows in that same vein - Zoboomafoo, for example, or Bob the Builder? She couldn't care less.

Lorelei, my daughter, I love you and am proud of all of your accomplishments. But why do you have to be so much like a real person?
